Brake fluid reservoir cap

Hi
I've just been told by the mechanic looking at my brakes that the cap on the brake fluid reservoir should have a cork gasket to prevent moisture getting into the fluid.
Is this the case? If so anyone know where I can get one from I've searched on bull etc.
Thanks
Andy

There should be a fibre washer I think.
However there is a hole in the top of the cap, so I'd say the washer is there to stop leakage, not stop moisture.

Ditto MarkyB there is a breather hole in the cap a missing fibre washer shouldn,t cause to much problems but easily made from thin gasket material if you really want one there

I think the original was cork. I introduced an 'O' on the cap thread for a seal because I didn't think I had a seal there and then I noticed the cork washer stuck (as in really stuck) to the top of the master cylinder - it looked like the top of the master cylinder casting!

Mine has a copper washer rather than a gasket.

Interestingly - today I was working (like a slave!) in a railway yard salvaging thousands of pounds worth of v useful spares abandoned by a Co that has gone bust! There were 3 high lift access rail vehicles sitting - and each one has a Morris Minor brake master cylinder mounted on the front beam ! There is a hydraulic pipe connected - and a bleed nipple - but no actuating rod fitted to the front, although rubber boot is present. Can't see how a rod would be fitted - but very definitely they were Lockheed Minor master cylinders. How strange! And no - I didn't take the caps off to check for cork gasket ...........

Get back down there and check BMC, you can sell at least two of them on this thread

Even I wouldn't be as crass as to take the caps (or even the gaskets) off working vehicles.........
