If it is a Mini then probably a Mini owner's club might be able to help better than us lot. (have a search about on the web)

I used to own a couple of Minis in the past but they were saloons.

You can get a production trace from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. Quote any identifying marks you can, eg chassis number, engine number, registration number, etc; send them a cheque (look at their web site for current price) probably about £25 and they'll send you a certificate saying when it was built, down to the day(s) concerned.
