Can anyone recommend a company to transport a van (effectively a non runner) from Lincolshire to West Cornwall? Thanks.

I can sometimes do it, but I'm real busy at the moment.
Call Prestige Vehicle Logistics a call, 07980775743. I've used him loads of time, he's a real nice chap. Tell him Rich Legg with the Beetles recomended you.

Thanks for the info Rich. I've just had a quote of £450, which is, I think, too much. I have calculated the distance from the current owner to me as 366 miles. My current thoughts are to hire a car trailer, which I've done before, and go and fetch it behind my Discovery. I just don't relish driving "up country" and back down to Cornwall at this time of year, too much traffic.

you should be looking to pay £1.00 per mile one way or close to that. The new VAT rate may mean your going to pay a little more though.

366 miles at average (say) 50 MPH = 7.5 hrs, plus a break, say 8 hrs.
8hrs @ £10 / hour = £80 (each way), therefore £160 "labour" costs
total distance travelled 366 x 2 = 732 miles, say 25MPG = 30 gals
30 gals = 165 litres
165 x £1.18 = £195 fuel
Fuel £195, labour £160, total (no profit) = £355, assume 20% profit, then charge = £426...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Place your delivery requirements on here
http://www.shiply.com/
let it alone for 5 days and watch the price drop.
As an example I placed one here a few months back initial quotes came in at £150 from several and they came down to £47 in a matter of days.
These people are bidding for the job and the price quoted for you will drop.

Not many will only charge £10/hour for their Labour - AND use of their equipment! The realistic price will be much higher - unless the Co can move two or three vehicles at the same time.......... Can you not just get AA Recovery - and 'breakdown' a mile into the journey??? Hiring a trailer will be by far the most economic method - since your time will be 'free' .
