STARTING HANDLE

With all Minors you have the facility of using a starting handle.
It amazes me how many owners do not even have one with
their Minors as it is an extremely useful tool. Apart from being
able to start the car with a near flat battery you can use the
handle to rotate the engine when adjusting the points, the static
timing, and the rocker clearances. Much easier than putting the
car in gear and rocking it along the road!!

You are right Willie and some owners who have one dont even know what its for, and at Rallies I have heard people ask at the autojumble / spares section ask what is that ! and do I really need one especailly as they are £3 - £5.

And if you're stuck at the bottom of a sand dune then you can take the plugs out and wind the car up in reverse - just like the ambulance in "Ice Cold in Alex". Do make sure there's someone on the brake though!

That was more of a sand Mountain and I wouldn`t fancy trying to walk up it, let alone wind a truck up it on the starting handle

My first minor had a duff battery when I got it, but it wouldn't ever start on the handle unless it was already warm. I used the handle to wind it up the steep drive, then bump started it
mind you i did curse if it didn't go on the bump start! Then have a cup of tean and a brek before having another go. I should have known right then that it was going to give me some grief over the next 11 years!
