hi everyone
can anyone identify this engine. the engine number is lov/189e/h39994.???
im not sure what cc it is so ill add some pictures
and is their a way of telling if its been rebored in its life???[frame][/frame]
thanks for that, so just the standard parts will be needed
the head number is 26202.
someone has painted it in the past. theirs a gold sort of colour under the green paint. is this like a base coute someone has used??
The engine will be 10 V ..... and that head is 12 G 202. Gold would suggest a 'Gold seal' engine - but I would have expected that to have oversize (ie rebored) pistons - and these are standard pistons - Grade 2 from the mark - but that's not important! Take off the centre main cap - and take pics - and look at the back of the shell bearing to see if the crank has been reground.
what does a 10v mean??
so it could be a possible gold seal or just a normal green one??
how do you identify a gold seal??
sorry about all the questions (never rebuilt a moggy engine)
10 V is just the later engine....... I doubt it's 'gold seal' since it hasn't been rebored - and anyway, I think they had their own unique number. Tell us about that centre main!
You don't need to - just turn the engine over - and remove the centre main cap. Then prise the shell from the cap - and look at the back of the shell to see what's stamped on there. Probably will say 'STD' = Standard size. If 010 = 10 thou oversize etc etc But let's see pics of the crank - and that shell.........
From memory - mains are 5/8" AF - big-ends 9/16" AF Be SURE to keep the big-end caps with the rods they come off - this is absolutely critical. Take pics as you go - so you can be sure everything goes back exactly as you find it......
All engine components should be laid out on a clean workbench in the order they were fitted in the engine. Ensure that bearing caps are the correct way around
