hi everyone
how many people would it take to lift a moggy engine.??
and would it be pushing it if i was to transport one in a nissan micra with 2 people in it (would it strain)???
not noing how heavy one is??

I have lifted a Minor engine on my own but it is a lot easier with 2 people - the car will take it no probs - I have collected one in the boot of a Fiesta.

No, its like a big adult sitting in the boot of the car, unless you can split the rear seat and shuffle the engine forward next to your back seat passenger. 18 stone over the back axle will probably make it a bit wandery at speed or on bends, not dangerous, just a bit unpredictible, so beware!

I have had two engines, toolbox, box of bits and myself driving in my traveller. That's what they were meant for.

Anyone know how much a 1098 engine would weigh with everything stripped off it, including starter motor, cylinder head and even the sump??

Bare block is 6 stone, crank 2 stone, cam 1/2stone (7 pounds), pistons/rods around 1 1/2 pounds apiece. Now to clean the oil off the bathroom scales!

Sounds like if you strip everything off the block before removing it, six stone should be manageable.

Best to remove passenger front seat and sit the engine there - on lots of old cardboard and an old rug or two! And yes - one man lift (for me) without head/dynamo etc fitted.

Also a good idea to strap it down so it can't move around if you stop suddenly.
