help with rust prevention

good afternoon all

help and advice please!

In the next month or so I will be getting my moggie back from a major body restoration by young Rich Legg, many of the panels have been replaced such as the complete floor sections, sills, x member, chassis leg, flitch panels etc, etc in other words rather a lot of work and welding :(

Before I start the interesting bits of refitting the mechanical parts i will need to give the chassis a lot of anti-rust attention. I am looking at either waxoly or Bilt hamber for the box sections, any feedback on using these ?? Does anyone have a diagram showing where to drill or what exsisting holes to use for the lance in the x member, sills and other box sections?? I assume you can paint the box plates by brush as you can get access to them or is it better to leave the kick panels on and use a lance??

What is the best stuff to use on the various new underbody panels there are a load of anti rust stuff all promising the holy grail of no rust!! I am glad to be the position of having no old seal to remove so at least the application will be lot more pleasent :D

I would have thought Mr Legg would guide you! Basically - fill every cavity you can find with waxoyl! A spray lance and compressor make it easy - but domestic squirt bottles filled with thinned and heated waxoyl work well too! Thin with white spirit - and heat in bucket of v hot water. Shake like mad - then spray for all your worth!

Thanks for that, of course Rich has guided me but with so many years or fighting the rust out there any help or tips is always helpful :(

With all that wax injection going on you will find it will run out of places you never would believe! best to get some small containers ready to catch and recycle - best done on a warm day for maximum 'runiness'

many thanks, now i know why i kept the old take away containers!!

After a good look around i think i will go with Bilt Hamber, very good test results and reports!

I use dinitrol 3125 cavity wax with a Schutz gun and a lance on a compressor. Either use existing drain holes or drill a hole and plug afterwards. Spay these areas:-

Inside front chassis legs and cross member
Between front panel and cowl panel (squirt below the grille)

A Pillar- remove an upper door hinge bolt and spray in here till the wax comes out the bottom.
Spray into the inner wing cavity from inside car, both sides of kidney panel (feel for this with glove compartment removed).

remove sill kick plates both sides and spray inside sills. Push lance as far back as you can behind B pillar (in 2-door car) squirting as you go.

Squirt wax into rear seat mpunting box holes, especially around the spring hanger areas.

Squirt wax into rear chassis leg and into boot.

The rear chassis legs may have foam plugs in them, have a poke around the ends you can see in the boot and remove them to gain access.
