Spanners ... what sizes ...

Hi there,

First post here so please be gentle with me!

I can't beleive that I am having to ask this question, but memory is playing tricks on me.

I learnt to drive in a 948 Moggy in 1973 and then owned Moggies, A35, A40 etc ... I'm now in position to buy a Moggy as my first mid life crisis 'toy car'. These days my tool kit is entirley metric ... what wrench sizes do I need for a Moggy, I have vague memories of A/F and Whitworth sizes, could someone please remind me what I need???

Many thanks
Paul (Stockport)

Hi Paul, welcome to the messageboard, you've come to the right place for advice :D

Here's a useful post showing spanner sizes: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=18356

Buy as many spanners and sockets as you can afford in A/F sizes from 3/8 to 1 1/4 and Whit sizes from 1/4 to 1/2.
Remember that a nut often has a bolt the same size on the other end so a mix of open end and ring spanners is useful so that you have two of each size. Combination spanners are useful for getting into tight spaces and a 2BA spanner will fit a lot of small bolts

Paul,

some of the best BA spanners were made by a firm called "Terrys of worcester" long since gone! If you search in ebay you will find a range of these spanners at reasonable prices.

Hope that helps[frame]Image[/frame]
