surface rust and waxoyl

i am thinking of just wire brushing, sanding, any surface rust off the chassis and applying waxoyl straight onto it, and jenolite (phosphoric acid rust etcher, you put on and wipe off), or jenoseel (red oxide primer) in stubborn places, then waxoyl.

only thing is, if i jetwash the chassis in winter months is the waxoyl going to come off or does it set pretty hard?

in which case should i really be applying a couple of coats of chassis black? my idea was to derust and then use clear waxoyl so i could see if any rust is coming back and i can get at it quick before it decides to take any further hold.

it seems pretty good under there but i can't see much underseal on there!

can you believe there's only one weld patch on the chassic, but there will be a couple more after i have been driving her i am sure!

waxoyl should be put on after doing all your prep and coating it is not a replacement for chassis black etc it protects the chassis black etc

Yes, remove all the rust from the underside, treat with phosphoric acid (jenolite liquid) then prime and paint. I use zinc primer as further rust protection. It is also a good idea to use seam sealer on any welds or seams. Then when dry, apply a couple of coats of chassis black followed by the anti rust wax. If it is a high impact area such as inner wings then you might want to spray on a few coats of anti stone chip primer before the chassis black.

Yes, the above will take some time but it is worth it to do a proper job.

Waxoyl is really intended for inside box sections - areas you can't get to. And yes - it will fall off if you jet-wash it!

there's this hammerite underseal with added waxoyl. i was thnking of wire brushing and cleaning the underside and applying this straight on. seems to have it all, underseal, black and with waxoyl!

either that or i think i will jenoseel (red oxide primer) the underside then hammerite waxoyl it with the aforementioned combined product.

generally clear waxoil for internal chassis sections and black waxoil for under the car

i have brush on black waxoil which is very good vor the outer high impact areas

I would not use any type of tar underseal under the car if you want to keep the rust at bay. I have used the black hammerite underseal before and was not impressed with its performance. The waxoyl is soon washed out of it and then it is just as bad as any other underseal. It dries, cracks, lifts and does a great job of hiding the rust as it spreads under the black coating.

In my experience, the best underbody protection is the regimen I outlined in my post above, and that after carefully removing absolutely ALL the rust. I don't use waxoyl any more, there are other brands of wax rustproofer that are much better these days such as Dinitrol.

ok this post is probably good because you're actually getting through to me and we're getting through the hype.

ok i am going to maybe look at this regimen you have going on.

i have seen this dinitrol in practical classics magazines and often wondered about it.

how about this?

1. derusting with wire brushing, sanders and jenolite.
2. jenoseel red oxide primer
3. chassis black on top of jenoseel.
4. clear dinitrol

:D
