Hello Everyone,
Just thought i would say Hi as I am a MMOC newbie and also new to the wonder that is the Moggy, I have always wanted one so about 6 months ago I purchased Clara, she is a 1957 4 door saloon 1000 948cc, i also would like to ask a question if I may since I have had her i have replaced the fuel pump and done lots of cosmetic details on her and she starts and runs okay most of the time, one problem that proving a headache is the choke cable, when i got her she had a "custom" piece of chicken wire coming out from under the speedo that acted as the choke and was connected directly to the carb, this was a complete bodge job so i removed it and bought a new choke cable put it in the dash and set about connecting it the carb, however it didnt look or work correctly. I think there is a bracket missing that acts as a guide before the cable attaches to the carb I have kinda seen this in the haynes manual but its still not clear :( I wonder if someone could help me either with a picture of what it should look like or any info at all on how to repair this!!

thankyou in advance
Steve and Clara

The set up depends on the age of the car, there were various systems but basically the inner cable should clamp onto the mixture enrichment (choke) lever which moves the jet up and down. Above that there should be a cable stop at the side of the piston chamber into which the end of the outer cable fits.
When the choke lever is pulled upwards it turns a cam which has an adjusting screw in a spring resting on it. When the choke is closed the screw should be just touching the cam. It then controls the correct engine speed when the choke knob is pulled out.
I would advice buying a BMC workshop manual.
Just a small point, the engine size should be 948cc not 998.
