hi
im just looking over a gearbox before i use it and it all seems to revolve smoothly with no oblious wear on the teeth.
the only thing i noticed is a slight bit of movement on the input shaft, just a bit when you hold it and lift up and down, is this normal or should it be tight except for rotation?

A little bit of wiggle on the input shaft is permissable, but not much. It is supported by the spiggot bush in the centre of the flywheel. The main thing is 1st gear noisy? You will probably not find that out until you run the box.
I am not an expert on the internals of gearboxes but someone may know how to check 1st before the box is fitted.

Take the side cover off and look inside - the little 'dog' teeth on 2nd (and 3rd) gear must be nice and sharp and unworn. Compare them with the teeth on 4th gear - which rarely get any wear and are always 'like new'.
It's not easy to see 1st gear - but if you select 2nd gear - you can see the teeth on the laygear for 1st gear (can just see them in this picture - box is in neutral) and these are the most likely to be damaged![frame]

it is just a little wiggle on the input shaft so thats ok then,
all the gear teeth apear to be unworn including first so hopefully it will be a good box
