is the floor cover for the gearbox sealed somehow? mine has has something that looks like window putty around the edge, but this has turned to mush with the amount of oil getting onto it.
so should i replace this with something similar (maybe foam padding) or should i simply just bolt the thing down well?

Re: gearbox cover
I'd seal it with something to stop water getting in. I think you can buy a gasket from the usual suppliers but in the past I have used dumdum and made my own gasket.

Re: gearbox cover
Hi
The original was a kind of butyl rubber sealastic material.
I bought a reel on ebay (3M bolted panel seal) Its just the right width and thickness and greyish white - very similar to the original. Its also overpaintable and suitable for low bake temperatures.
Theres enough on the reel to do 5 or 6 cars so ill be bringing the surplus to the National
