like I said - its creaky (: infact, there's quite a bit of creakiness! it started this morning.
i'm greasing her up tomorrow just to make sure all is well in that department, but could there be anything else causing creakiness?
...its making me uneasy about my trunions.

Hi
Possibly a worn eye bolt rubber bush and the creaking you can hear is the suspension arm pin rubbing on the eye bolt?

Trunions tend to knock rather than creak.... The last (very bad) creaky car I came across was one where the front chassis rail had parted company with the floor but as you've just got an MOT yours couldn't possibly be that bad....

I agree - inspect the torsion bar support front and rear.

Lubricating the rubber bushes with brake fluid may solve the problem.

the amount of sludge in the oil filter casing was amazing! it's a miracle poor rose even managed to lubricate the engine! I've greased all nipples and changed the oil and filter now - sounding a lot less ropey and a hellova lot less creaky (:

Was the plate (and supporting spring) present in the filter casing ? You can imagine that the base of the sump will be covered in exactly the same mess........... If you have an idle day - may be worth removing it and cleaning it out too!
