The Morrie is completely stripped, on its side, and I've scraped all the old tar underbody seal off the bottom.

Overall, it's looking pretty tidy, apart from a couple of holes in the corners and those front chassis legs (mostly around the suspension mounts). You can see where it's had quite a bit of welding in the front corners in the past, but fortunately it was done in a fairly tidy way.

Before getting into welding on the chassis, I thought I would practice on the doors. I've been working on the front left door. Here are some pictures. It's my first go at welding in panel sections, so don't laugh too hard! I'm actually quite pleased with how it's going...

Well done on your first attempt at welding.
As my welding teacher said to me many years ago...you have to be good at grinding down welds first....you'll get better at welding later..... then there will be less grinding !!
You will have bad days sometime but keep at it...it's practice, practice, practice.
"Clean metal " everytime, it nigh on impossible to weld rust.
Good luck.

Yes, the main lesson so far is that good fit and prep are 90% of the job!

Yes, the work on the door looks good, glad to see you are butt welding the repairs in :D. a quick grind of those welds and a bit of paint and no-one will ever know the door was repaired! It would be a good idea to seam seal the seams before painting and apply wax rustproofer to the inside of the door after painting.

Way better than my first attempts. Mine were on the inner wings so they could be hidden! And purposely there are no pictures uploaded. So nice one!
