Hi does anyone know about Freeview signal.

the reception on the 2 most important channel is poor (BBC 4 and Ceebies)

I have a 4 way splitter in the loft with a built in amplifier, but it stil cuts out.

I have a newish high gain aerial and it points the same way as my nieghbours.

Any suggestions to improve the signal??

I've tried all kinds of things - cannot get reliable Freeview at all. One day it will be fine - next day hopeless. And I can see the transmitter - about 20 miles away but clear line-of-sight to it! I'm going Freesat - bought a Grundig box for £5 on ebay - just need the dish and Lnb now!

It may be you need a wideband aerial if the BBC4 multiplex is on a channel that's far away from the others. see here: http://www.ukfree.tv/fullstory.php?storyid=1107051054

If you type your postcode into the box at the bottom of http://www.freeview.co.uk it'll guess what channels you can get and give you an option of which transmitter you're using. There used to be something on there that told you what channel number each multiplex is on and hence what band aerial you need but I can't find it any more. :( It even told you where to point your aerial in degrees from north. If I stumble across it I'll let you know but I fear it may have been dumbed down so you have to pay an aerial company to do everything.

EDIT: This link lets you work out where to point your aerial, but only tells you the channel numbers for analogue:

Been there, done that, got Freeview (aerial in the loft!) and Freesat - with 8-way distribution unit.

When the signal went digital, I sent back my licence (There's so much rubbish on that I usually watch videos and DVD and after years of accumulating them, I won't get bored). However my parents have a Freeview box and once it settled down, it seemed fine; some stations were out of sorts at the start. Generally the reception is now better. BBC 1 had been duff for a while before the switch and I wonder whether they couldn't be bothered to fix it as they knew the digital service was coming.

The annoying part is that the video and DVD won't record, even via a box   .
