i'm probably being really thick, but i can't work out how to fit the weather strip
the current ones are rotten and, having ordered a new set, i'm not sure how to make the swap.
i assume the window needs to come out, and then some jiggery-pokery without the glass.
any suggestions?

i didn't, thanks; but this focusses on the rubber lip seals
any ideas on how to replace the original felt ones?

It can be a bit fiddly but I've never needed to remove the windows. When you remove the existing seal make sure that you remove all of the clips as sometimes they break off and stay in the holes in the door. Then slowly fit the new seal one clip at a time using the flat end of a screwdriver to push in the clips as stated in the attached thread.

I see you too have fallen foul of the secret moneymaker, postage and packing, my one true hate of buying parts online, especially when the postage is nowhere near what is on the package

- it's just ridiculous that if you buy these for 14 p, you have to pay £7.90 p+p, and if you but a bonnet, it's over £60.00 and, therefore, free!

Never worked out why if I post a package I pay face price for the stamp but if a company sends me a package I have to pay VAT on the face price of the stamp and the used box that it is sent in.
Back to weather strips, I fitted mine upside down with the alloy strip at the top. It might not be correct but it looks neater.
I am going to convert to modern rubber strips that actually work.

Let me know how you get on please Mike, I am in need of new strips and would prefer to go the rubber route but have no idea how to.

I have the rubber 'touch glass' strips which are really quite neat and do an excellent job, the side which touches the glass is covered with a thin coating of 'felt' which allows the glass to slide past easily. On the inside I have the standard window seal.

Yes, use the same clips (new ones) but I don't think any of the window seals have any holes in. I can't remember how I started the holes - but I finished them to size with a needle file! A dob of dinitrol on the clips and around the holes should slow down rust production!

I just fitted some, felt on the inside and "touch glass" rubber on the outside. They came with holes in them and went in with the glass in place. I found it helpful, for a bit more clearance, to take out the window channel rubbers.

I closed up the supplied new clips with pliers (slightly) to make the fitting easier - plus copious waxoil.

Postage costs, ie to get the item from A-B is set by the couriers or postage companies. You then factor in the time taken to process your order , find either a suitable box or buy a Jiffy bag, assemble the order , phone the courier or pop down to the Post office, taking time from earning the average £35 per hour of workshop rates or a % of staff rates.
By law we have to charge VAT on carriage and MOT's , Joe public does not, but we are supplying a service.
Profit on weather strips if sold by anyother except factors ie Bully, ESM etc is tiny probably 10p at the most. Most large suppliers will do free carriage on items over £50-60 as the profit is in the goods and they probably ship several hundred items a day and as such are offered good terms. As a smaller supplier we are not able to match these prices so often suggest contacting the main supplier direct to save them money and also save our down time, where we can be trying to earn a living.

No one likes postage, but its a darn sight cheaper than going to collect it.

can anyone tell me where the rubber strips are currently available?

This seems like one of the best simple mods .... the original felt types are no barrier to water at all.

Being a bit sad, I actually tape over mine when I wash the car. (only had it since April), so concerned am I about water running into the doors.

On my shopping list. The easiest way to fit them must be to lay the felt strips over the top and pierce the holes through.
