Sadly my car (Josh ex car) has been stolen from outside my house Ascot (Berkshire) area, lots of posts about it on this forum.
Sorry Josh, this bank holiday weekend it was going to have the well know security feature fitted + upgrade to Wolseley brakes and 3.9 diff, so if your car has not got security features don’t delay it.

I hate theft in any shape or form, Stealing another persons property is the lowest of the low.

Oh dear- if only it had that secret switch fitted. Hope you get it back soon - and not damaged either!

I agree entirely with you BMC, I have taken your sound advice onboard many times, but work circumstances led me to not doing what I should have done last weekend, having said that, it seems likely that the car was rolled down the hill that I live on and loaded onto a low loader. Now I feel very guilty for not doing it earlier.
I have fitted the ‘switch’ to my other project but I’m beginning to realise that that it will not be sufficient to stop a determined thief with a loader. The only good thing is I had not yet fitted the 3.9 diff and Wolseley brakes.
Hope my experience makes others take action.

What secret switch? I think I may need something myself.

the secret switch is fitted in the feed to the *** *** and can be hidden under the dash..

so when the thief nicks your car they get 100 yds down the road and the car splutters and dies and rather than fix it they do a runner.

I am totally distressed by this - I knew that car and it was lovely. We should all be very vigilant and keep an eye out on ebay, classified ads etc.... So sorry to hear about this....

Unfortunately - the switch will not prevent a 'determined' thief (nothing will really) - just the local joy-rider lads.

the problem is with car thefts like this is usually not chavs, its people who probably own a minor themselves who know how easily it can be broken and sold on, they probably know all about *** **** etc.
i know no-one likes to think its "one of there own" but it probably is.
ive got alot of friends with landrovers and two of them have had them stolen in the last years, one with a secret switch. steering locks etc.
Theyve probably been broken never to be seen again!

but anyway back 2 the point in hand, bad luck about the theft, ive got my fingers crossed you get it back!!!!!

I was pleasantly surprised at the reaction of the police, they have been round and are doing as much as possible to locate the car, they made enquiries with neighbours, have a picture of the car and the local police will be ‘keeping a lookout in the area’ plus the automatic national license plate recognition system will be triggered if the car goes through them, although I cannot believe that any self respecting criminal will be stupid enough to be wandering round in that very distinctive car with the original number plates.
Of course there are the other things that have disappeared with the car, scissor jack, two sets of glasses, set of skrew drivers, set of sockets, spare distributor (complete), toilet role(I always carry one in all my cars- very multitasking item), morris jack, starting handle, a 2 gallon steel petrol can that I’ve owned for 25 years, a ski jacket, an orange, an apple, can of oil + loads of other things that have dropped out of my pockets or I cant remember I left there but more importantly lots of hours of work from previous owners.
It was also it was my daily car and I had lots of plans for it so now I have the headache of what do I get to replace it if it does not surface, which is looking more likely.

Over the last couple of years we have convinced many Midget, Sprite and Morris Minor owners to have us fit Cat1 alarms, central locking and Trackers to their vehicles when they come in for work to be carried out. Theft of classic vehicles has risen alot lately.

The packages are very discreet.

Exactly - which is why most of us 'allude' to it - and send details by PM!!!!!!!! However - you can hide yours wherever you want!

Nothing to report, it seems unlikely it will be recovered now, if they were joy riders the car would probably have been found, so it must be a 'professional outfit' although I can't understand why that car appart from being easy to break into.
It was by far the lowest value car on the road. There are BMW's, Lexus, New mini, Mercedes and all sorts of cars with a value of more than 6 to 12 times the value of the morris.
So what happenes to a low value car that is useless for fast getaway's, very noticeable and has limited market for parts?
I am still clinging to the hope that it will reappear, but I must say its not looking good.

Can anyone explain why Minor's like this are taken - is it to break them for spares or shop overseas? It would help us protect them if we knew why the thieves wanted them.

Scrap value? There are people who will even steal electrical/telephone cables and copper gas pipes for scrap.
