Jethro 1968

Not really a restoration but I thought I would start a thread and share what I do to my new moggy.
This is the first classic I have ever owne and I am looking forward to enjoying working on and driving him about.
I acquired Jethro on Wednesday, MOT was done yesterday.
Today I painted the bonnet handle and badge in what I think are close to good colours.
I then gave him a good clean inside and out and shined him up.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]
I have a lot to do such as cleaning the underside and treating the metalwork to paint and waxoil to keep things nice.
Externally he needs some rust taking back from various spots which I can then prime and repaint and I also need to refit the original front seats and consider re-covering them and the door cards.

wow! im having deja-vu, all i can see is brown cars!
good choice in colour!
im a strong believer that they dont make enough brown cars nowadays!bring back the brown cars i say!

Which of us has the correct coloured grill? yours is white and mine is peat brown, what would it hav origionally come out the factory like?

If yours is an early F reg it should be Old English White - A later F reg (after October ish) it should be Snowbery White I believe......

It's a January 68
According to the data Peat brown was in use from Oct 1967 to Nov 1970 and was introduced before snowberry white

This weekend despite the cold and rain of Saturday and Sunday stopping me from getting anything done, I did manage a nice amount today in the glorious sunshine. :D

I decided to change the seats back to originals this weekend as I really hate the fiesta ones.

I noticed that it needs re-webbing, but this will have to now wait and I was past the point of no return lol.

Sadly in the process of getting the passenger one out I snapped a bolt so the drivers side will have to wait till next weekend when I can procure another bolt.

I was left with just enough tine to start repairs to the bonnet as this had been damaged by the handle not being seated correctly causing some denting and also light rusting. I gave it a good rub down and tapped the dent almost out stopping a little short as I felt I needed a very small amount of filler to give me a better end result. Then I filled, rubbed and primed it, by this time it was a little dark.

Friday evening - I gave both the gear lever and handbrake lever a rub down and quick paint.
Not fantastic but much better than the rusting black it previously was.

Drivers side seat changed and gave the floor pan a little attention.
Before I began.

I cleaned some light rusting and gave it a paint.
When I get a new carpet set I intend to fully strip the inetrior floor pan and make sure its well protected.

Looks much better now both seats are done. :)

Looking better with the red seats in. They go well with the brown paintwork. Nice car you have there ! :D

Thanks Steve n Kelly yes the do indeed look so much nicer :)

Finally with a week off work I have a chance to tackle the body.

my new rear wings are now primed and ready for topcoat.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]
After the mess on the floor future sprays will be done suspended in garage.

Big Update from my week off work.
With the help of my friend and neighbour Stem.
I did some prep work over a few days where several areas required some attention to rust, this was taken back to good metal and filled/primed appropriately.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

The car was given an all over rub to provide a good key then the painting began.
Stem was a huge help this week, without him I would have really struggled. It was so hot the paint was drying as soon as it hit the car so we ended up doing it panel by panel.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

After some work flattening off then buffing with compound it was time to put things back together.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]
A repaint of the doors and 1 rear wing is required, then I shall sort out the coachline.

Very impressive, i'm rather envious when I see what you can do. I have had to get mine resparayed by a garage and it's cost me a few quid.

Thanks but I did have help and reckon I have saved about £1000 maybe more.

I have been very daunted especially as this is my first old car, even to the point of feeling I had perhaps bitten off more than I could chew lol.
I would say to anyone "Have a go" at the very least you will get some enjoyment from attempting anything and the satisfaction that follows a success far out weighs the dissapointing times.
Have a go you may be pleasantly surprised and what you are capable of.

Well I feel much happier with Jethro now, his paintwork is completed after giving him a 2nd spray session on Tuesday.
Last night and today I compounded and followed up with a polish up and my arms a freaking aching lol.
