Clunky handbrake cables

Has anyone managed to repair a handbrake cable where the sleeve has become detached from the fitting that screws to the floor? I've seen this fault several times now. It can cause the rear brakes to drag, and makes the lever "clunk" as the sleeve pops back into the fitting. I'm considering cleaning the grease off and epoxying the sleeve back in place.

Me too, the cross piece that the adjusters go into should have some movement in it (I think) if this doesn't move the cables might saw through that part you describe.
I often put a light spring over the cable at the brake end to encourage the lever to return to the rest position as the amount of friction in the system makes it a bit lethargic.

The fitting was only held onto the sleeve with a single tiny crimp so it wasn't too surprising they came apart.
I've Araldited them back together and also re-crimped them a bit more securely. Only time will tell if this repair lasts. My worry is that if I replace them with a pair of new cables they will be just as shoddily made and will also fail in due course.
