Points Of Order
Gladys, 1962 948 cc has just had a self service.
The service kit included the wrong set of points so these were replaced with the correct set.
Due to the cafuffle, and my mental block when it comes to points, I can't get the sequence on the points-post right.
There's 2 plastic/nylon bushes, a black low tension lead, the orange condensor lead, the contact breaker arm and the securing nut.
Which is the correct order?
Also any tips on gap setting for the points and an idiots guide to ensuring the distributor leads go to the right plugs.
Thank you for reading.
Best wishes

Re: Points Of Order
The LT and condensor lead need to be isolated so its "bush, lead, bush, lead, nut". The firing order is 1,3,4,2 so just follow this sequence around the cap and make sure the leads go to the correct plugs.

Re: Points Of Order
And once you get it right - put a small tie-wrap on the #1 plug lead so you know which one it is! The others following in sequence - so no need to mark them all.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
"Bush lead, bush lead" is very helpful.
From the bottom of the post-what goes first?
For exampl: Breaker arm, bush lead, bush lead?
Out of the 2 leads, which goes on first?
I'm a complete cluts when it comes to points,
Thank you again for your reply.

Re: Points Of Order
and the firing order is cast into the manifold
Re: Points Of Order
As long as the leads are isolated it does not matter which you put on first.......sloopjohnrb wrote:Hello,

Re: Points Of Order
Does that include the breaker arm too?
Can the leads and the breaker arm go on it any order?
best wishes

Re: Points Of Order
The point (sorry!) is to insulate the breaker arm and the leads from the support pin - but not from each other! It's simple - can't go wrong.........

Re: Points Of Order
hello again,
Thanks for your reply.
As mentioned, I have a severe mental block re points.
I've recently replaced the Differental unit, and fitted new choke cable, and over the years done scores of jobs.....so I'm not un-mechanical, but with points, my mind just goes into a "freeze".
If you could give me an idiot guide, from the bottom of the post, it would be really, really appreciated.
What goes on first?
Which way does one posistion the bushes etc.
Where does the breaker arm go?
If you could give me an idiot guide, from the bottom of the post, it would be really, really appreciated
I'm not being deliberately stupid or obtuse, honestly. I am sorry to trouble you, but I'm still unclear as to what goes on the post and where.
best wishes

Re: Points Of Order
hello,
I'm afraid I don't have the manual you mention, rather the Haynes type, which isn't very clear, especially the diagram.
"Bush breaker lead lead bush.", is different from, "Bush lead, bush lead", and so I am now confused as to which one is correct.
Thank you for your reply
