5 Capitals Run (Welsh Leg).

I am just testing the waters here.
Julian has posted their challenge of travelling through the South Wales area on their 5 Capitals Run. As my local South Wales branch were in the process of organising some kind of welcoming party for them. There's seems to be a lack of information on what is going to be done. Our Chairman has booked his holidays and is unable to attend. If this is left unatended then I am affraid that we will miss the chance to show what friendly people us Welsh owners can be. I have offered to use my ex-police car to unofficaly escort the group from the Welsh border to our capital and onto West Wales. Is anybody else interested in joining the convoy along the way? I have tried to ask permission to use Cardiff Bay as a short term display area, but I am still awaiting a reply from Cardiff City Council. If this fails then it's just possible to use the Museum of Welsh Life (St. Fagans) car park. As we had a great responce from the Forum users to join us on our branch spring run last month. I wondered if anyone might be interested in joining in.
You don't have to join in all the way. As we/they will be travelling along most of the Welsh section of the M4, you could join on any junction that we pass or just to join us in Cardiff where we will be stopping.
So what do you think?

Brilliant idea :D

I'm in Cardiff but would be willing to meet up at the border and drive back to Cardiff and beyond (depending on the time and how I feel). Maybe I'm a bit mad to drive to the border and back considering I only live 2 minutes away from St. Fagans   But anything to meet up with fellow moggy owners :D

In regards to using St. Fagans - I remember a couple of years back seeing a line up of minors parked outside the castle/manor house. Do you know anything about that Ray? Maybe they would let us park there this time? Would be worth asking ;)

Hi Mat. No I don't know anything of that one. Although it is great that your thinking of joining us at the border, I will be travelling over the old Severn Bridge and escorting them over to our side. It would be great to join us but I think as we can't get any help with the cost of the tolls, (I have already asked). It would be a waste of money as this extra £5.50 could be used elsewhere. I might sujest hanging over one of the bridges ie. Magor or Cardiff Gate and joining in when we pass by. I don't have any numbers as to how many will be taking place eighter by the Wilt's Branch or numbers of our own clubs. So having a line up would be a great idea, we might have too many to accomadate our needs.

I suppose it would be a waste of time, money and petrol driving all that way to drive straight back

Don't think we would get a display area down Cardiff Bay (it'll aways be the docks to me ). Their policy on clubs having public liability insurance is very strict so I am led to believe - but we can hope they let us :D St. Fagans would be a great venue though, especially if they let us in through the rear entrance (the driveway upto the house) and let us park in front of the house :D :D :D

Who have you spoken to in Cardiff County council. I used to work for the traffic management section for 10 years and I know nearly everyone there. I think I know the person you need. She looks after all the events within cardiff and shes based within the grounds of Cardiff Castle. Let me know who youve spoken to and if its the same person I'll see if I can prod them a bit :D, or failing that, I can get her details for you.

Her name is Claire, if its the same person, tell them you know me, Stephen Beaumont (she'll call me Pikey most probably).

There used to be a car show on the Oval in Cardiff bay at one time, but after repetitive showings the cars ended up breaking up the very expensive teak decking the Oval had. The decking has since been replaced with nice stone now.

Thanks Steve. I have had a few crazey days of late.

I got a bit dispondant because we were looking for a good venue to host the Welsh leg of this challenge. I managed to speak to a K Burt who works At Cardiff Castle. He is looking at putting us inside the Castle but has a few outstanding things to lookinto first. Then after leaving a few voice messages, The person in charge of St. Fagans, is looking at playing host to us there. She too is looking at a few things that might hinder her decision. One of them was concering insurance, but after explaining that we have our own insurance she is looking at other problems that might arrise and will let me know within the next few days.

So thanks for your input and lets get this ball rolling. :D

Santa.

It would be great to get into the castle, don't know how likely that is though considering that the show that the Cardiff HMF Club have put on for years at the castle has been cancelled this year due to cost :(

What date will the convoy be passing through Wales? I got so many shows to go to this year I have had to put them on the calendar rather than commiting them to memory.
