Oil Filters

When I bought the Traveller last year it was missing the gubbins inside the oil filter despite it's last service being from a garage. I recently rebuilt my spare engine and one for a friend and have just helped out with another.
They were all the same all they have inside the oil filter cannister is a paper element. Since these are the only A series engines I've had anything to do with since selling my Frogeye at aged 17 (I'm a lot older than that now) just how many people are running a Minor with no filtration? Checked yours recently?

I *definitley* have a paper filter in mine ... I imagine you could get away with no filtration so long as you change your oil very often, however I'd be worried about clogging up some of the smaller oilways & overheating the block as a result.

What I was trying to point out Alain is that you need more than just the paper element. There is supposed to be a pressure plate and spring and associated bits and pieces and on all of the ones I looked at they were missing

Yes there is supposed to be a pressure plate, a spring & a couple of washers, which go at the bottom and seal the filter against the top edge, you can buy them here: http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewP ... =17069#top

Try shopping around - Pressure plate Moss £13.50 (less current offer discount) MMC £1.48 or you could try a scrap yard; that is unless the're all missing

Yes - I have mentioned this many many times in the past..........It is the slight benefit I see for folks changing to the screw-on filter, although personally I like the cartridge!

It may be something to do with the ~ dozen I have in stock............ They also fit my TR7 - however it cleverly has the spring and plate trapped on the bolt - they can't be thrown away with the old filter. I'm sure early Minors had a similar arrangement.

I prefer the cartridge as it has less of an environmental impact that the screw-on type ... however I have a screw-on mounting for when the cartridge type become unavailable.

I think I have two 2nd hand oil filter housings for the cartridge filters with the plate and springs if anyone needs them.

The Series MM filter has the plate and spring held in place by a circlip. Things went down hill after Austin took over.
