Clutch over centre

I work mate of mine has rebuilt the gearbox and engine of his car, a two door 1967 1098.But now has a strange problem. The clutch is going over centre.The adjustment appears to be correct it's a new linkage new clutch. Can anyone sugest what he has done wrong? Mick

Hi I can only explain by saying that it feel's as if the pressure plate fingers are going in too far and then it sounds as if something? is hitting the friction plate

The obvious thing to say is - don't press it down so far! Sure the carbon thrust hasn't worn down and the casing is rubbing on the release pad. If you take the rubber bungs out of the bell housing should be possible to shine a bright light in and see what's going on - probably NOT with the engine running!

my guess is that the centre plate was fitted back to front?

sounds like mine only thing i could do was fit a new clutch, when i took the old 1 off the thrust bearing was damaged and worn so it could be the same

Some will I believe, and by all accounts it is quite noisy?

Has he used the correct carbon thrust? The 948 and 1098 thrusts are different

Thanks for the input. As far as I know it's got all the right parts, assembled correctly,BUt something is wrong I hope to report back next week. As the weekend will see the car back on the road and road tested!!

just hope that there is something amiss with the linkage otherwise the gearbox will have to come out again?
