My wife went to fill up her moggy tonight for the first time and fuel came out everyhwere when she brimmed it, it now has 3 quarters left and has stopped leaking, so I am presuming there is a leak near the top? Or is it neck related? Not had a look yet, she left it at the garage and I am fetching it tomorrow. Any advice etc welcome, thanks

Check that the petrol gauge sender has a gasket and is screwed tight. It is a circle about 4 inches diameter on the top of the tank. Mine leaked the first time I filled up. Use a brass screwdriver to avoid sparks!!

It's certainly not unknown for the top of the tank to be 'porous' due to condensation - and likewise the filler pipe. Could just be loose connection between filler and tank. I can only afford 1 gallon at a time these days - so don't ever have your problem!

Also if you fill it to the top and drive round corners enthusiastically, the joint between the filler pipe and the tank often isn't that great & you can end up with spillage from there too.
