Trev has developed a misfire

Part of the reason for doing a service today was to get rid of a misfire that's appeared .

Whilst he's not conking out, there is a misfire in all gears and when idling. Today I changed the oil and plug and put a new air filter on (there wasn't one before). I checked the points too (which were replaced last month). The fuel pump is ticking away as before though I haven't checked the filter yet.

The coil was replaced last month too. Can someone give me a quick list of things to check that might cause a fairly regular misfire?

timing or valve gaps

Was it misfiring before you replaced the coil?

Yes, it was terrible before I replaced the coil and that fixed it completely - has been fine for about 6 weeks. But before it was causing me to break down. This is more regular somehow.

Coil again, condensor, dodgy fuel?
Loose electrical connection, rotor arm.
Try to get it fixed before next Sunday's drive

Condensor, if not that then do a compression test- could be a slightly chipped exhaust valve giving a slight miss.

Are you sure you don't now have a coil that is designed for use with a ballast ignition system? In other words it's supposed to work on ~ 9 volts and you are giving it 14! That will overheat the coil - and overload the condenser. Try going back to the original coil - likely nothing wrong with it.

The new coil is another Bull Motif purchase - I'm just assuming it's the right one. The old coil works but the rivets on the spade connections are loose, so now it's my spare.

Well - BM don't supply Minis so likely it is the right one. If you have a meter - check the resistance. Should be ~ 3.2 ohms for 12 volt use. Thoroughly clean and degrease the old coil around the rivets - then tighten them with a gentle tap on a piece of rounded end steel rod. i would then use the old coil.........
