Hey all, i recently bought an escort mk 2 rear axle and i was going to convert it to disk brakes but i think it comes with large 9" drums, so should i spend a few hundred on some sierra disk brakes or should i restore the 9" drums? engine will be a toyota 4-age so will need good brakes to stop.

I think you should be okay with 9" drums at the rear but obviously the front brakes will need to be substantial disks. The rear brakes won't be doing a lot of work. I was fine with 160-170bhp on rear drums.

We ran 320bhp with the Escort axle and 9" Capri drums, worked very well. just make sure that the front discs are up to scratch. beware alloy hubs as these seem to prove fragile when the car is fitted with a decent power unit.
