Mixture Button

Post by andygill »

Hi

What does the mixture button do ?

This evening my car engine seemed to be running fast (as if the choke was out).

Could it be to do with the mixture button (most left button on my dash). I looked in the manual and it says under no circumstances should this be on all the time. It says to put it on you pull it out and turn it 90 degrees to the left to lock it. I tried this the button seems to be out already and wouldn't lock. I could press the button in but it automatically comes back out.

Thanks
Andy

"Mixture button" is the choke. I guess the button you are pushing is the windscreen washer jets. Unless you are driving an F1 Minor I'm not aware of any other cars with a mixture button

Old story of one old lady who really thought the choke was there purely for her to pull out and hang her handbag on!! Seriously if the car is tuned correctly, you will only need to pull out the choke for starting the car and keep it out for a little while whilst the engine has warmed up. Then push it fully in. (It will need to stay out longer in Winter conditions as it will take longer for the engine to warm up)

if its sticking out it needs adjusting at the carb ,disconnect the cable and making sure the choke is full off pull the cable so that the button is fully in and reattach it to the choke control on the carb,If you haven't a workshop manual I'm sure bm will send you a copy.

Bull Motif have workshop manuals ????????? Show us a picture of this 'mixture button' !! If the engine is revving too hard at idle, first check the choke is going fully off and has a little 'free play' in the cable, ditto with the accelerator cable. And then twiddle the idle screws and tweak the ignition timing and the mixture to get a nice slow even idle.

Andy, if you have a Minor with a key start then the push button on the left is the screen washer pump and the mixture/choke/cold start control is on the right with a big "C" on it
