Last call for entries! Probably too late now for postal entries, late entries though are more than welcome!

How to make a late entry to the HOP

If you go to the website http://www.kenthop.co.uk and download the entry form, fill it in to enter on the day and phone Graham Major (phone number is on the entry form) before Saturday night. Graham will give you a HOP number over the phone if you want to enter. IMPORTANT We need to have a HOP number for all late entrants to display in their windscreen to ensure they are allowed into Brogdale by the Swale marshalls, after that you will be guided into the Hop rally field to be entered in and receive your exclusive Hop bumper rally plaque and potteries made luxury fine bone china Hop mug, exclusive Hop program (I wrote that!) and self judging card.

Look forward to seeing you on the day, say hello to me (my photo is in the program :D ).

Well had a good day out with The Kent Branches Hop yesterday, it started with a challenging drive, that really tested the cars and the drivers skills from Mote Park, Maidstone to the The Swale festival of Transport at Brogdale. Everyone involved with the organising must have worked their socks off to give us enthusiasts a great day out.
I'm looking forward to next years already :D

I filmed just a small part of the day and you can view it here by clicking on the link.

Looks like good fun.
What is the vehicle 2:37 into the you tube clip that looks like an early attempt at a modern Minor?

Thanks Peter for the kind comments! You're right, we do work hard to put this event on each year and it makes all the hard work worthwhile to hear that folks like you have had a great day out! :D Just one example to secure the hire of Mote park for the start of the rally I had to fill in/send off/co-ordinate/ organise what seemed like a silly amount of paperwork, including scanning the club public liabillity insurance and sending it to Maidstone Borough council.

Marky B, that car is an Auto Union 1000, fore runner of the modern Audi. A very interesting car, you are right, from the front, it looks almost Minor like, but from the rear and side, resembles a Citroen DS!!! I spent some time chatting to the owner, it has a 2-stroke 3 cylinder engine with 3 coils and 3 points and condensors in the distributor!!! The engine is mounted in front of the front axle with the rad and fan behind and the engine has no oil or water pump!

Yes it was a great day out, Marky if you PM me your e-mail, I can send you an entry form for next year!

We had 109 cars this year! Just for the Hop field (more in the Swale festival of transport).

We have yet to calculate how much we can give to our charity this year (Kent Air ambulance).

Wow! That sounds like a Wartburg engine! my head is spinning trying to work out what the design brief looked like.

A neighbour of mine from many years ago had a Wartburg, I gave him the 6v coil from a motorbike to cure the nasty missing problem he had.

Yes, looking under the bonnet, being used to my Minors, my Porsche 944 and my Toyota, there was a certain amount of head scratching! Not only does the Auto Union 1000 look like a DeEsse from certain angles but it is a quirky as a classic citroen as well!

That is why classic cars are so great, the character, the individuality and sheer bloody minded eccentricity compared to moderns. :D :D :D :D
