Roll Cage

Post by ratrodmog »

Hi guys, I have just picked up a roll cage for my new build second hand from ebay. It looks to be almost exactly the same as the one Jonathon has in his track car http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f= ... &start=0.I have two questions about it.
1. It's covered in surface rust (nothing major) but what is the best way to treat it? Sand it back to raw metal and powder coat it?
2. It has two old Aleybars stickers on it and just wondered if anyone has had experience with this company (I think it is now called Safety Devices but may be wrong) ?
Cheers

I had an Aley Bars cage in my first Minor back in 1986. It seemed to fit well.

The cage I built was blasted, etched and powder coated. It is a very durable good looking finish, much better than I could have achieved by painting.

Was that in the green 2 door with slot mags? I'm not planning on rolling the car over or anything like that, it's more if someone hits me I want to be a bit safer. I can sand blast it myself and send it off to be etched ect. I'm assuming that the cage, although it's clearly old, is still up to scratch as there are no holes or cracks in the welds.
