Hi, is there a kit you can buy to make the gearchange not so "sloppy"......just wondered as have done this with other cars and it transforms the way they drive. Or is it how moggies are supposed to be?

i am not aware of any kit to "tighten up" the gear change.. the problem is one persons sloppy is another persons stirring porridge. do you have problems selecting gears i.e. could it be time to change the gearbox?

There is a kit available to restore "normal" performance if your parts are worn out.....

Great, what is the kit and where can I get it from, the gearbox is good just very porridge stirring to find first etc, no grinding or noises etc.

If you are thinking of the daft 'Quick Shift' kits that some foolishly fit to their Mini, and then wonder why the syncro has failed 500 miles later, then NO, fortunately there is nothing like that for the Minor. As others have pointed out, you can get new plastic bushings for under the lever from any of the usual suppliers. Just look up Bull Motif and follow the on-line buying.

There should be an O ring in the slot on the bottom of the gear stick and a nylon plunger with a spring underneath the end.
If it is really sloppy it may be worth taking the gearbox cover off and the remote control and checking that the rod that pokes down into the box is tight on the shaft.

It might be worth getting a second opinion if you go to a rally or your local branch.
