Just a quick question regarding the use of A-Series engines.
Will an 1275 A+ engine from a 1980 allegro ital etc fit a moggy? as in will they just drop right in

Re: A Series Engine?
The Allegro wont but the Ital will if the front end plate is replaced with a minor one plus a modified backplate & a redrilled minor flywheel

Ah right, I assumed that the basic size of all A-series engiens was the same with different bores.
thanks

Re: A Series Engine?
Indeed they are, but the East/West engines use very different crankshaft tails and there are some other differences too. So you need a North/South engine to suit the Minor. At least one is bravely trying to fit a Maestro engine into a Minor. This has more chance of success because it was fitted with an in-line gearbox, but is still fraught with difficulty.

Re: A Series Engine?
aha right so what your saying is that any north-south then would be suitable? as in drop pretty much right in?
Re: A Series Engine?
If you can get hold of a Midget engine then yes it will drop straight in. Marina / Ital engines require Minor front and back plates and mods to the flywheel and starter plus a clearance "hole" in the battery box for the heater valve (or remove it) and a different top hose elbow.... Maybe some other little bits but thats the bulk of it....
