hi there folks,
i am just going to look in the various manuals but i was wondering if someone could tell me what the petrol reservoir is called, the little one about the length of those 1 pound coin holders and twice the width of one. my gasket is a bit leaky and i am wondering if i can make one with a cereal packet cardboard or something. please advise. thank you.

do you mean the sender unit in the petrol tank
if so the gasket can be bought from bull motiff

But 'leaky gasket' is likely to be a symptom of high fuel level in the float chamber, rather than a problem with the gasket itself. It's a very thin/delicate gasket and I rather doubt the ability to 'make ' one!

it's been getting a lot of cranking and priming from the fuel pump.

Is this dirt in the float chamber filling valve, holding it open, causing it to overfill and escape via an air vent in the 'lid'? It may not be a problem with the cover sealing gasket. I had that often with fuel from a particular garage when I owned a Triumph 1300 TC. Two float chambers to keep grit-free!
