Hi All
I can't put it off any longer - I need a recon gearbox for my 1098 Minor. Has anyone any recommendations for picking a good supplier? Have you any horror or good news stories?
Cheers, Marty

Thanks, but the present one has lasted 180kmiles and I want to get a recon from a reliable supplier with a written guarantee - I'd like it to last for the next 180kmiles !

Hi - there seem to be plenty of suppliers, no doubt all claiming best product, lowest price. How to choose? hence my original post !
Cheers, Marty

That is indeed the problem. There is a recognised 'expert' on Mini gearboxes on the Mini forum. He is very well thought of there. But I don't know if he does (or is willing to do) Minor boxes. The Mini box was of course developed from the Minor box way back in 1958 - and at that time had all the same gears etc, just a different input gear.

I spoke with gearbox guru on miniforum - he is very well respected supplier of fully repaired Mini gearboxes, and he is certainly interested in considering Minor boxes, although slightly unsure of the spares position. Contact him yourself at http://www.guess-works.com/

I dropped mine out and took it along to Heathrow Transmissions, which are in a tiny back street in Hounslow (don't go in a big car). The chap rebuilt it for me in a few days replacing the bits that were needed. This was a few years ago and its been working fine ever since. He normally does Minis, but seemed happy enough to do a Morris and had all the parts in stock.
