Heater hoses -how to remove

I'm changing all my hoses for new ones whilst I'm tarting up the engine bay. Can't find anything in Haynes or the Morris Workshop manual about the heater. How do I get the heater out to access the hoses? The lower hose I can get at but the upper one is nigh on impossible so I presume I need to remove the heater first. I can see two brackets at either side of the drum part of the heater which bolt it to the firewall. Are there any other fixings that hold it in? Do I need to remove the front panel first?

Thanks.

There are 2 screws under the dash above the heater unit on the late heaters

If you remove the glove box liner you can reach in and detach the hose without removing the heater.

You just take out the screws at the front - and lift it off, certainly for the later 'fresh-air' heater. I don't know about the earlier drum heater.

There is a big drum contraption at the back and it is bolted to the bulkhead with 2 bolts.

MarkyB, thanks for the tip but tried that this morning and although I can get the cover off (just), the cardboard insert doesn't look like it is going to come out unless I remove the steering wheel. Is this necessary?

EDIT

I got it out. Didn't realise it had a split in it to facilitate removal.

I now have nice new heater pipes and bulkhead grommets.
