Series 2 engine stuff

I always thought the fans on Minors were yellow, but looking at my engine (which I'm pretty sure is probably original paint), the fan looks like it was red from whats left of the paint that's on it. Anyone know for sure?

Also, I've removed the radiator and given it a quick clean on the pipe fittings and noticed that the actual matrix looks like it has speckles of brass on it - were these supposed to be brass but turned grey with muck? I have no intention of getting the brasso out for this, just curious.

Oh, and a general question about carbs - on restored cars they're often polished up like chrome itself, but the surface on my carb is grubby, pretty rough, and doesnt look like it was ever shiny. Were they shiny from new, or is this just an obsession amongst restorers :wink:

Some fan blades were red. There was a changeover around 1960 ish but I'm not sure of the exact date without digging "The Bible" out.
Rad tanks and outlet pipes were made of brass but I've never polished a core either so I couldn't say.
Shiny carb dashpots are definately just an obsession - when there is nothing left to polish..... :lol:

Some slip a little 'chrome' cover over the carb bell. Others have been known to spend time with Autosol polishing the thing. As above - only for those who have absolutely nothing to do............
