Hi all some urget info needed I went to mate together my rebuilt 1275 Midget engine (midget flywheel) to the gearbox and the 1098 Borg & Beck Clutch does not fit its too big.

I now realise I need the 1275 midget clutch which is 6.5" whereas the Minor 1098 is 7.25"

So a few questions (urgent as I want to fit the engine and box togther and in tomorrow!

1. Is the 1098 fork OK to use and the 1098 bearing? Or do I use the 1275 bearing?

2. Will the clutch operate or do I need to modify the linakge (not that I too concerned there as its not fiited)

3. If i do can someone tell what I need or beter still send a drawing of diagram etc... by e-mail (click on link)

Russ - I'm pretty sure you should use the 1275 release bearing - some suggest lengthening the operating rod to make the clutch less 'sudden' - but others seem to find it ok as is.

Ah that sounds good to me only to use the 1275 bearing is it thicker then?

I actually thought it was thinner........Is the 1275 clutch assembly not more bulbous ? But it would be good if you go this route to post up pics of them both side by side so we can all know for the future!

The bearing is much thinner so is overall thickness of the plate housing!!

The 1098 engine uses a large spring plate, manual linkage clutch. The 1275 Midget engine uses a much smaller diaphram plate, hydraulic clutch. However the manual linkage from the 1098 clutch will operate the 1275 clutch perfectly satisfactorily provided the previously stated modification is carried out to the relay shaft. There is enough adjustment on the adjuster rod to take up the difference in the thicknesses of the clutch pressure plates.

I must say that I sat in Mike's traveller the other day in Oxford and that clutch is silky smooth..............still not excatly sure what I need to do yet to the linkage. I will post some images tomorrow!

Weld an inch onto the lever on the clutch relay shaft which attaches to the pedal linkage and redrill the hole. Part no. 178, the arm on the outside needs lengthening.[frame][/frame]
