Restoration on AUL 769H ''bean''

Well iv finally got my 1st moggie this ones a bit special as she was used in the met as a panda car back in the day! iv given her a good clean outside and found several areas i need to tackle as she has a fair ammount of filler in places although hes not that rotton! At first i cleaned her and painted the door as it was white and detailed parts red[frame]Image[/frame]

then yesterday i started looking a bit deeper and found i need to do some welding on the sill and a little on the floor! fire up the mig![frame]Image[/frame]

i think it would be nice to return it back to a panda car. it would look so much nicer to see the old police cars driving around even if you have to put the magnetic plates onit. if i had the money and could drive i would love the chance to get hold of a panda car especially the price you paid for it. ill be soon looking for a banger of a moggy for a first car to fix up in 6 months time.

thanks for the comments! and i feel very lucky to have a small piece of police history! especially as it is my first mog, im planning to keep it quite along time and would one day like to completely restore her back to police form! i want to completely hotrod a mog with roofchop etc but it WOULDNT be this one as it would be destroying a piece of police history thanks

Thats quite a list of jobs you have there, no worries Patrick, take them one at a time and give yourself that restoration buzz.
pritty soon you'll have a car to be proud of, and you'll know every nut and bolt.

Yes quite a few bits! Dad said the same just do bits at a time! Im going to work on the inner wing area tomorow weather permitting!

chop the top while you're at it patrick, and blow it over with some metal flake flames. seems that your a little self critical- there have been many minors with worse work on them. (superglue rather than weld in some cases :o )
how did your driving test go or should i not ask? have you got your eight yet?

thanks for the comments! i may chop it in time just not quite yet! :D im not sure if people would be upset with her being ex police but then again its my car :) i failed my test! retake in june and the morris 8 iv heard nothing of lately :( im hoping il still get it otherwise il have to vent all my mad ideas onto another 1940s car!

Is this the nut under the brake conection 3 way what sit at the front? Or is it something else? :) thanks!

Patricklambert. Well done for having a try, I know that you are keen and all and want to fix up the car, but it would be well worth your time having a play with some sheet metal before you dive in and try to fix a car that will be driven on the public highways. I do not want to dampen your enthusiasm for the best car ever made, but humbly suggest that you have a good look at some of the better restorations done here and consider buying repair panels as they will make the work much easier for you at not a great cost. (also google pigeon poo welding and its remidies, I have been there and am too ashamed to post my early efforts!!)

The bit you are welding at the rear wheel arch is a major locating part for the fitting of the rear wing. Try and keep marrying up the rear wing as you progress with the welding, you don't want to finish and find the rear wing doesn't fit (or looks wrong). This is where I would take ptitterington's advice and use panels..... because in all honesty, it's not easy to marry up the wings on assembly when the panels are still original let alone repaired. Remember to make sure all metal you are welding is shiney and clean of anything that will stop electricity ie rust. The weld will flow so much better and easier.
