Cheap(er) Old English White paint?

Post by davew1949 »

Now the weather is looking up (Ha Ha blooming HA) idle hands look to Moggie doing up time again. I don't do a lot of spraying so can't really justify a full air powered spray kit. I buy my Old English White from ESM, and find it a pretty good match for my 1965 Mog. I know it's probably sacrilege to the purists, but with a bit of effort, partial panel sprays can be blended in quite well (with a bit of T Cut and if you step back a yard or two anyway). However at £11.50 a pop plus delivery, I'm finding the ESM solution getting a little pricy.

Can anyone let me know of a cheaper source for spray cans of Old English White.

I've done a bit of searching on the web but to no avail. I read somewhere that Halfords ARUM WHITE was Old English. Can anyone confirm that it's the same shade?

Cheers

I have used cheaper Old English white from another supplier but was not completely happy with the quality. Used it on some smaller parts and on the wheels, but the spray nozzle is not as good as the ones on the ESM supplied cans, also the colour match was a bit too grey compared to the Cellulose paint I used for the panels and the gloss finish was inferior to the ESM paints and the mixed can of OEW celly that I have.

Basically, for local blown in repairs on panels I would carry on using the ESM paint as it is the best quality I have seen in an aerosol can. Just use the cheaper cans for wheels and less critical/ obvious parts.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Be sure to heat the can up in a bucket of hot water before use - and you can always swap the nozzle if it's not working well. I found Bull Motif paint rattle cans to be excellent, before I got a spray gun!

I can confirm that Holts Arum White is a very good match indeed.
