rear brake adjusters

how many brake adjusters should the real wheels have? i have one on each and even adjusted as far as they will go, the wheels still turn

do you have new shoes on and are the drums worn
you should be able to turn the adjusters and lock the shoes on the drums
mabe the adjusters have worn

new pads, new adjusters and new cylinders. surely the drums cannot be that worn?

Are the shoes on right way round - and are the cylinders free to slide in the back-plate? You need to slacken off the handbrake cables, then adjust up the shoes - and yes, they will lock the wheels - and only then do you adjsut up the cables again to give the amount of travel on the handbrake that you wish. Some like it to pull ON at 2 or 3 clicks, others like a bit more travel. Should be able to lock the rear wheels with the handbrake at 20 mph on tarmac.

If all else fails then a washer under the cap on top of the piston solves the problem. I deny all knowledge of that method :-?

and yes your drums can be that worn.. I had to replace the rear drums on my traveller shortly after buying it and they were only 16 / 17 years old at the time..

And no doubt someone will correct me on this... now that they have got rid of asbestos in brake shoes the drums wear out even more "quickly"

Using a washer as a spacer sounds a bit dodgey to me. I make little spacers from pieces of sheet aluminium with the ends bent up to stop the adjusters sliding about too much.
