Was going to take this lot to the council tip but a mate told me to weigh it in.

I had 6 car batterys (small minor sized ones) 77Kg made me £23.10 & an old rusty portable generator and a couple of other items like the old discs off the peugeot and a caliper and this made £13.40 so it was well worth the trip out so if you have any metal lying around weigh it in. To think I was going to just dump it !!

The prices yesterday were Batterys £400/ton and mixed basic £140/ton. Whilst there I enquired about copper and the price was £4,000/ton thats 4 quid a kilo so no wonder people a stealing any scrap left lying around so beware of that spare engine lying in the driveway dissapearing !

That is a very good point. I have always just taken old junk to the council tip but if scrap prices are really that good then I will try the local scrapyard first!

Thanks for the informative post.

What type of copper scrap @£4 / kilo?

I sold old copper ch pipes @ £2.40 / kilo yesterday, the receipt said brazing copper.

Isn't Cu. tube nearly pure copper? BUT, I found this on the internet, Trident Metals:

Braizery. This is copper tube and strip that contains solder joints.

You'd need to have it all clean and bright without solder then, to make it higher-value copper, I would think.

You are quite lucky on the mainland, we are held to ransome by the two robbing bu**ers in Jersey. Last week I weighed in 140kilo of clean aluminium (Greenhouse and window frames) I got £41. Funny whenever I go its the worst time ever for selling scrap.

We get masses of lead and I give it to an old boy who makes lead weights rather than get 10p a kilo from the scrappie.
End of rant.

I've thrown away plenty of scrap in my time (disks, calipers, old sills etc...) at the council tip
Crumbs - now that'll be even more junk to keep hold of!!
