Replacement Alternator

My alternator has developed a fault and the battery sensing terminal seems to be putting out 12v. As I had this incorrectly connected to the ignition switched side of the fuse box it meant my wipers worked and ign and oil warning lights came on without the key in the ignition switch. :o
Pulling the sensing lead off the alternator fixed this but something is obviously not right with the alternator.
I need to get a replacement and wondered what model other people have fitted. I don't recognise the one I have, I think it came of a Fiesta a very long time ago but can't be sure.
I'll be buying new as I have recently moved and have yet to find any local scrappies. :(

The sensing connection should be fed by a wire from the IGn warning light. Try that , it may be working. Normal alternator is the Lucas ACR 16/17/18 model.

Thanks, I'll try that but closer inspection reveals worn out pulley bearing. It had worked ok as was for many years until the other day when I turned off the ignition and everything stayed 'live'. :-? I thought it was a problem with the ignition switch at first. ACR's don't seem to be readily available, is the LRA100 the modern equivalent?

I just pick up alternators at autojumbles- £1 each!! If that LRA 100 you mention came off a Mini or similar - then it should be fine.
