My daughter has hinted that she is now a proud owner of a prov. driving licence. I have made a prommis to her that I would gladly take her out for the odd driving lesson.

When I was learning to drive My dad made the same prommis to me almost 30 years ago. Back then lessons were about £5 with a school. I took a 10 week course and after much pleading with him I managed to get out with my dad on 2 occasions both were very bad experiances as he has No patients at all. I passed on my 2nd time around.

Now my youngest daughter has reached the age of 21 she has hinted at me taking her out. I almost fainted at the cost of her going on my insurance but my insurance company declined to insure her. but another company said that for a fee she could join mine.

I am almost frightened to ask what is the going rate for lessons with a good school.

I took her to my local industrail estate that has very large empty car parks and we set too with the basics. After a good hour and half we managed to cover quiet a lot. She is a quick learner and with a few school lessons she would be ready for me to take her out again. I found that I was a patient dad who enjoyed this experiance but fear that too much too soon would be teaching her my bad habbits.

i went with a person who did it by him self and the lessons were 18 pound each, i took 20 lessons and then you have to pay for thory and the final test, which arnt that cheap hope this helps

well if you get one thing wrong they could fail you, depends what mood the tester is i, luckly mine was ok cause i got talking about morris's

When I took my lessons, they were £1.25 per hr. therefore 10 hrs was £12.50. my weekly wage.
The rate is now arounr £20-25 per hour. 10 hrs is £200-250.
Guess what the wages are now?

A friend of mine is a driving instructor (Based in Treharris, so a little way from you). Learning to drive and learning to pass your test are not always the same thing but as my friend has experience of rallying, he knows a good bit about driving and passing your test!!

Thanks for giving me an insite of pricing lessons. As my daughter is 21 in August, I can see me paying out on lessons as an alternitive to a Party.

And the theory test and actual driving test aren't cheap. You have to have a double lesson = £40+ for the test to take place and then there's the cost of the test itself (62.00 for the driving test) Remember the theory test has to be passed (£31.00) before you can take the practical one)!
