That's really interesting - I wonder what happened to SJO 62A, does not appear on the DVLA vehicle enquiry but maybe it is out there somewhere?

It's either SJD 624 or SJO 624 either way it's an early series II and doesn't seem to be around anymore.

I wonder what the big spot light was for, anyone know? Mine was fitted with one according to a picture I have of it in 1979. The resting position of the wipers I find interesting to (how sad), I've managed to get both of mine to sit at the bottom, in line and they both swipe all the windscreen.

Now there's an Idea.

'A shiny new car is painted with a solution of soap and water for the draught test. Air pressure inside the car causes bubbles where air is escaping.'

Got to be worth a try - some sort of adaptor to the elephant's trunk hose and the air compressor!

Is any one going to have a go???

There is an electronic unit made to check fo air leaks.

Ahh but was such a thing in exisitance in 1950's UK production line, I very much doubt it.

I'm not sure how valid a test this is in the first place.
Sitting inside the car with a joss stick while it is in a wind tunnel would find real life draughts better I suspect.

many years ago I worked in a power station. The generators were hydrogen cooled. We checked for leaks with a spray filled with soap and water solution. (it was pressurised with air for the leak test )

sometimes the simple solutions work best.

That's how pressurised telephone cables are checked when trying to trace a leak, unless its under water where the bubbles can be seen

If cars were just there to keep you out of the weather it would be an OK test.
Unlike wires and generators we like to drive cars around at some speed making this test a bit simplistic.

Different areas are going to experience different air pressures from the outside.

How useful is it to see how they react to constant pressure from the inside?
