Congratulations. My first run out on my 17th birthday with my Mother in the family Rover 105s (she had a licence but couldn't drive) we headed up the backroads. Going well until we met a Landy going very quicky over a hump towards me, I took to the verge on my side, and unfortunately it turned out to be a ditch. The Landy stopped and pulled us out, lucky he had a rope and we had a tow hitch. No damage done but Mother never came with me in the car again. In my defence, if I hadn't taken to the verge the Landy would have hit us. Never had any accidents since not counting a few 'offs' when Rallying of course.
When my daughter was learning/passed her test I warned her that one of her class (at school) would be killed in a car accident - and to make sure it wasn't her. So far (10 years on) two in her class have been killed, in separate crashes, and she hasn't had any accidents. Take care.

there's worse things out there than a Fiesta! My first (on-road) drive was in a Talbot Samba...
I did however put my Minor back together as soon as possible after I passed my test, so MY first car was far more memorable.

Nothing wrong with the Samba! It was a great wee car - went like stink considering it was only 950cc ,development of the Imp engine, and much sought after for fitting to Imps these days I believe. Ours was dark brown - so it was called Sambo rather than Samba.......... inevitably I'm afraid.

Happy birthday :D . If you're anything like I was, you were looking forward to this one more than you are to your eighteenth? I no longer look forward to things, as time now seems to pass fast enough without encouragement. Enjoy being young and make the most of it. Life is still good (I don’t think I’ve grown up fully and I doubt I ever will  ) but I’d nevertheless like to relive my 20s and 30s (Maybe I’d skip a few bits here and there). It doesn’t get better or worse, just shorter  .

Your own garage at 17 is good going :D :D , even if the car is in bits!! I’ve had the same car (MG Midget) since the age of 19 (I have added to it). When I bought it, the car was not that old but in those days MG had stopped building sports cars, so it became a “Classic” of sorts sooner than would normally have been the case. I don’t regret it and classic cars are a way of life. I like to be in control of the maintenance of my cars and my Morris and MGs allow me to be in control of most things. At one time I used to just like cars of all ages, whereas now most stuff post 1980 is of little interest to me and very little of what is on offer new today interests me. Even the latest Morgan models don’t appeal in the way that earlier ones do (I’d really like a pre war Series 1 4/4).

Stick with your Minor :D !!

Indeedy, Happy Birthday! Enjoy and BE CAREFUL! Everyone will say it to you, they mean well however those it is directed at won't necessarily 'take it in' but it can do no harm to try...

For various reasons I waited till I was 18 actually, having a m/cycle, then learned in an IMP! 400 miles driving about with various peeps sitting alongside. Then I took a test... :D
