Croatia by Morris in 4 days for charity

At the end of May my good friend Lee and I will be taking part in a charity 'banger run' to Croatia taking place over 4 days. The budget for the vehicle is £250. Originally we were going to use an e30 BMW but the sale fell through. Luckily a car was donated by ESM albeit with out an engine and in need of welding. Doing the trip in a Morris Minor just seemed to feel 'right' somehow.

The trip is organised by a charity called Gemin-i (http://www.gemin-i.org). They are a childrens charity set up to fight HIV, Malaria and the devatation of conflict through educating children in developing countries.

The trip sets of from Brugge on May 27th. The first leg is to Strasbourg, the second to Munich, the third to Ljubljana and the final day is spent driving down the dalmation coast to Split Croatia. Unlike most participants we will be returning in the car and passing it onto another enthusiast for restoration.

'Pete' the Morris may have come without an engine. However I have a spare 1300 engine which was supposed to go into my '53 split screen project this summer. It's now up and running with a very scrap heap challenge side exit exhaust (i didn't fancy fabricating an axle over piece!) and ready for a weldathon!

I have set up a facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/gro ... 6192898684 and we also have our own 'just giving' page which details what we are doing, the charity we are raising money for and allows secure donations directly to the charity http://www.justgiving.com/5678s. If anyone is generous enough to donate we would be very grateful, we need to raise at least £1,000 to be able to enter the rally, however with a bit of sponsorship and a some intensive fund raising we hope to reach £4,000 for what I'm sure you'll agree is a very worthy cause.

I'll be keeping you all informed of our progress as we go. If the DVLA can return the log book quickly and I don't run out of welding wire we should be on the road soon!

Many thanks for your time

Well done - I'm sure it'll go fine (although I wouldn't trust an Alternator to get to Scotland, let alone Croatia).
If you need a co-driver at short notice I think I could manage it ;-)
Ray.

Well I'll have a spare alternator as well as many other parts. I don't plan on leaving this one in Europe like so many rally participants.

Well at least that's one back up driver!!

No pictures yet but the weldings coming on nicely and I just have the offside sills and one small repair on the chassis leg to complete.

Crumbs - if I ever got to go road tripping in a car that SOMEONE ELSE had rebuilt I'd have to check that I was actually awake and not dreaming!

Haha I know the feeling, sometimes being the most able isn't such a good thing!

I'm dangerously close to an MOT now, just sorting minor issues and electrical gremlins now. I'll let you all know when there's a nice green piece of paper for 'Pete'
