hi folkes,
i am getting fed up using the arm to hold the boot open, has anyone fitted one of the shocks that expand and hold the boot open?

I think that one of the specialists does a kit. Could be Morris Minor Centre Birmingham

Yes they do. I've got a pair for the rear doors of my Traveller but haven't had time to fit them yet. I have seen a gas struct fitted to a saloon though. It seems to work well. They're not cheap- about £37.00+ VAT each from memory.

Faceplant I have one fitted to my saloon and it works a treat. You could source parts and make your own but I bought mine from the MMC Birmingham. The instructions do say not to use this on a FG bootlid.

apparently there are 2 kits, for early and late minors. mms checked and sent me the early kit
