What is this knob for ?

Having removed the air filter housing, I noticed a little brass knob on the side of the block..

What's it for ?

Handy for draining the engine block of water during the winter though. But I suppose with antifreeze we dont need it anymore. But handy never the less for draining down when you change the thermostat or something similar.

If yours is anything like mine anyway, the water way inside the engine block that leads to it is blocked and it wont work as a drain anymore anyway.

For info did you know your engine is a 948cc its got 950 cast in the side towards the front. Your pickup would have had a 1098cc unit at 1970. Doesnt matter just an observation thats all.

We had a discussion on that very subject at Brooklands. Gearbox is 1098 though. A piece of wire up the tap spout usually clears the crud.

Would be worth clearing it - to ensure water is circulating round the block ok.
