Door light switch

Hi there. Ever since I've owned the car, the lights don't come on when I open the doors. It has the little 'button' that can be pushed in and that is underneath the door hinge. The light also works when using the switch on it on the roof but I can't see or work out how to get it to turn on with the doors. Has anyone got an idea where the wires go from and to?
Thanks
Steve

Squirt some WD40 or similar on the switch then push it in and out and twist it around. This often works and is easier than taking the switch out. The switch can be unscrewed with a large Philips screwdriver but I am not sure if it its held by a captive nut. If it is not then the nut will disappear into the bottom of the A post.

I did as you said but still nothing :(. The switch is like a crosshead screw with a hole in the middle for the spring loaded button. Hmmm...

If you take the glove box out and reach down the gap behind the A post & you will feel if there is a wire connected to the switch follow this wire and it should go on an earth at some point(there might be a bullet type connector where it joins another earth from the passenger side switch) clean up the connections including the earth point and try the switch again. If no joy then take the switch out completely (if the nut behind isn't captive the electrical earth wire will catch it) clean up the switch and the metal behind it and see if this works.

Definitely must thank you all for another spot-on topic! I've been having trouble with my interior light since the wreck, and beforehand I know the driver's (mine is LHD) switch didn't work.

The wires from the interior light go to bullet connectors on the door switches and earth through the switch to the body when the door is opened and the switch centre springs out. If you can get your fingers around the back of the switch try pushing the wire into the bullet connector as far as possible.[frame]Image[/frame] The photo shows a light switch operated by the bonnet cross brace on the same principal as the door switch.
