Currently on the look out for a minor, seen a few examples, but could somebody tell me, if i were to get a 948cc minor, could i put a 1098cc engine onto the 948cc gearbox or would the box have to be changed along with the engine. Thanks in anticipation.

It can be done - if you use all the original 948 parts - ie backplate/flywheel and clutch. BUT - the 1098 gearbox is a much better item - and the clutch is bigger too, so it is best to use the later 1098 'ribbed case' gearbox with a 1098 engine.

Don't 'despise' the 948 engine! It has the best chance of fuel economy (well - 848 may be even better, but hard to find!) - and the power can be increased very easily. It's a nice smooth engine because of it's shorter stroke.

Why does everyone seem to "hate" the 948
