Hello, sorry if this has been covered already....
Is there an easy way to tell what capacity an engine is? The moggie i've just bought has 800cc on the V5 still but the bloke i've bought it off assures me its had a 1098cc engine put it. It's a '55 model so it could still be an 800!
Thanks in advance
David

just below the manifold underneath the crankcase breather there should be a silver plaque if its a 803cc it will be 800,948cc it will be 950 and 1098cc it will be 1100

Josh is right, if not a plaque then the numbers will be cast into the block. :D

An 803 also has a metal oil filter cannister screwed into the block rather than the 1000 type that sits close to the chassis leg.

Does it have the original 803 gearbox with the long gear lever or the ribbed 1098 box with the short lever?

beware if you tell the DVLA that the engine is a 1098............ You will have to go through the 'Spanish Inquisition'/produce receipts/engineer's reports... You should right now get a letter from the seller - confirming that a 1098 cc engine has been fitted, and listing it's engine number on the letter.
